Description

This module will discuss how to assess body fat and muscle condition. It will also describe how to interpret pet food labels and discuss nutrient considerations for various ages and lifestyles. The module will also describe manufacturing practices to consider when evaluating companies. It will then focus on nutritional considerations for different life stages. After completion, participants should be able to assess a patient’s need for nutritional intervention, gain confidence when choosing over the counter pet foods, and be able to make specific food and energy recommendations based on a pet’s lifestage.

After completion of this program, participants will:


  • Understand the importance of evidence-based nutrition

  • Describe the basics of metabolism and adaptations specific to dogs and cats.

  • Summarize the concepts and research behind therapeutic diets and their applications, proper ways to intervene in anorexic or critically ill patients, and how to advise clients regarding alternative feeding trends.
