Description

This program will cover the pathophysiology and therapeutic consequence of type 1 diabetes mellitus; pharmacokinetics of currently available insulin products; counseling for a patient regarding the potential side effects of insulin therapy; and concepts surrounding use of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion and continuous glucose monitoring.

Based on material presented in the pharmacotherapeutics course of our Doctor of Pharmacy Program.

Objectives

Pathophysiology and therapeutic
• Understand the pathophysiology and therapeutic consequence of type 1 diabetes mellitus
Pharmacokinetics of insulin products
• Describe the pharmacokinetics (and PK class) of currently available insulin products
Continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion
• Understand concepts surrounding use of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)
