Description

Multiple sclerosis (MS) affects an estimated 400,000 people in the U.S., with approximately 10,000 new cases reported every year. As a chronic and progressive neurologic disease that requires lifelong, dynamic treatment via costly, high-touch medications that also require special handling and storage, multiple sclerosis therapies are often delivered via specialty pharmacy programs.

Objectives

On completion of this course the learner will be able to:
1. Describe the basic pathology, epidemiology and demographics of the MS population.
2. Explain the diagnostic process for MS and the principles of the McDonald Criteria.
3. List the four major clinical courses of MS, in particular Relapsing Remitting MS (RRMS) and Secondary Progressive MS (SPMS).
4. Explain the diagnostic category of Clinically Isolated Syndrome (CIS) and be aware of the high risk of MS in this setting.
5. Review symptomatic issues that complicate MS and how best to manage them.
