Description

This program will provide pharmacists an overview of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis including indications for prophylaxis, evidence for prophylaxis based on results from recent trials, and important counseling points associated with HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis.

Objectives

Objectives
At the completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:
1. Define and identify indications for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis
2. Differentiate between HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis regimen and HIV post-exposure prophylaxis regimen
3. Summarize the evidence supporting the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis in different patient populations
4. Explain the risks and benefits of pre-exposure prophylaxis
5. Identify key counseling points for patients initiating HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis

Amy Cheng is currently a PGY2 HIV Ambulatory Care/ Clinical Pharmacogenetics resident at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy with practices sites at CompanionDX laboratory, Therapeutic Concepts, and the Retrovirology Clinic at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, TX. Her research interests including simplification of HIV therapy and pediatric HIV.
