Description

This course will highlight the available prescription and nonprescription products designed to manage cough symptoms. Looking at dosage, drug interaction potential, and side effect profile of each agent when analysing a patients symtoms. The learner will disscuss the current level of evidence regarding the use of antitussives.

Objectives

Mark A. Malesker, PharmD, FCCP, FASHP, BCPS

Mark Malesker is a Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Professor of Medicine at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Malesker received his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from Creighton University. He then completed a cardiovascular research fellowship at the Creighton Cardiac Center. Dr. Malesker’s teaching focus includes critical care, anticoagulation, cardiopulmonary topics, and the formulary system. Dr. Malesker is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist. He serves as Clinical Pharmacy Specialist with the Pulmonary Medicine/Critical Care Service at Creighton University Medical Center.

Dr. Malesker is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists, the Nebraska Pharmacists Association and others. He has given many presentations at the national, regional and local level to physician, nurse, and pharmacist audiences.

Dr. Malesker has published dozens of articles on critical care and cardiology topics in a variety of journals, including Chest, Pharmacotherapy, the Journal of Emergency Medicine, the Annals of Pharmacotherapy to name a few. He has authored several book chapters including recent chapters in Pharmacotherapy Principles and Practice, 2nd Edition and Drug Information: A Guide for Pharmacists, 4th edition. Dr. Malesker has also been involved in numerous research projects and clinical trials.
