A comprehensive homestudy course on Arthritis, Diet, & Exercise

Objectives

After completing this course, the clinician will be able to:
1. Discuss the various forms of arthritis, its prevalence in the U.S. population, symptoms, and risk factors.
2. Describe the evidence for a connection between arthritis and diet, and discuss various types of diets, antioxidants, and vitamin supplements.
3. Explain the benefits of exercise for patients with arthritis. Identify the various forms of exercise suitable for arthritis patients, and how they may decrease or prevent arthritis symptoms.

Mary O’Brien, M.D., is a full-time INR instructor, physician educator, and course writer. She is a board-certified physician in geriatrics and internal medicine and has served on the medical school faculties of Georgetown University and the University of North Carolina. She is also a board-certified Physician Nutrition Specialist. Dr. O’Brien has served on the editorial boards of several medical journals and has published extensively in professional journals. On the subjects of pain management, pharmacology, geriatrics, and nutrition, she frequently lectures to health professionals. Dr. O’Brien has served as a reviewer for the Bureau of Health Professionals at
the Department of Health and Human Services.
