Course Availability

This course is only available to trainees days after purchase. It would need to be repurchased by the trainee if not completed in the allotted time period. This course is no longer available. You will need to repurchase if you wish to take the course again.

Description

This is the second course in the series. After a brief review of material from the previous course, the discussion proceeds to how measurements on the ground are first converted to their equivalents at sea level (geodetic distances) before then projecting them onto the plane. The differences between the 1927 and 1983 systems are discussed, with attention drawn to the fact that various states have chosen linear units of meters, feet and U.S. Survey feet (depending on the enabling legislation of each state).

Objectives

Objectives
By the end of each session, participants will understand:
1. Important concepts from the previous course in the series
2. The concept of moving a distance at the ground to the ellipsoid and then to the grid
3. Distortions that occur with each type of projection
4. How the 1983 U.S. SPC system differs from the 1927 system
5. How zones vary with shape of the area to be covered
