Description

The presentation is intended to provide veterinary practitioners and their staff with ideas on how they can assist their clients and their communities in making preparations to be able comply with the requirements of the PETS act. This compliance is necessary for jurisdictions to receive compensation for expenditures made in relation to assisting in evacuation and sheltering of pets during a declared emergency.

Objectives

Objectives
1) How to identify local and state resources ahead of the emergency to assist in pet evacuation and sheltering.
2) Local and state sources information to aid pet owners in preparing for pet evacuation in case of an emergency.
3) Provide awareness of the available equipment preplaced around the state for animal sheltering.
4) Increase awareness that the emergency response begins as a local effort.

on behalf of Missouri Veterinary Medical Association

Charles E. Massengill, DVM, is presently with CRM Veterinary Consulting. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1979. He presently serves as director of the Missouri Volunteer Veterinary Corps. He is also a member of the Emergency Management & Public Health Committee and Missouri Stocker Feeder Quality Assurance Program.
Bill Jones, DVM, is owner/practitioner at Versailles Veterinary Clinic, Versailles, Mo. He graduated from the University of Missouri-College of Veterinary Medicine in 1972. He presently serves as chair of the MVMA’s Emergency Management and Public Health Committee and is a member of the Missouri Volunteer Veterinary Corps.
