Description

This presentation will educate nursing staff about the complicated process of sepsis in the veterinary patient. Commonly used terminology and definitions associated with sepsis will be explained in an effort to ease communication among the veterinary team. Early recognition of clinical signs is imperative to provide rapid treatment which can help to increase survival rates. Understanding the pathophysiology of sepsis and the nursing care that is required as part of each patient’s treatment plan, is another goal of this lecture. The role of the Veterinary Technicians throughout this process is immensely important. Beginning with phone triage, proceeding to patient admission and through hospitalization, the needs of the septic patient can change dramatically over a short period of time, therefore, intensive care monitoring is essential.
