Description

While most dentists see the PFM as the strongest cosmetic alternative to a full cast crown for molar teeth, concerns remain about the beauty of the PFM crown and the periodontal effects of margin placement to facilitate more natural looking aesthetics. The past decade or so has seen the emergence of a unique High Noble composite metal for use as a thin yellow gold coping in a PFM crown with aesthetics that are superior to, and strength that’s on par with, the conventional PFM. For the doctor, preparation design is a major factor in the success of a crown, and rotary instrumentation has continued to evolve in a way that better accomplishes that goal. The dentate carbide bur has been a welcome addition to our armamentarium and one such instrument possesses attributes that make it well-suited for a margin and overall prep. This presentation will introduce some of the science behind the choice of this metal composite and present a molar preparation design to receive PFM crowns created using this material. a preparation design that often can be accomplished with a single dentate carbide instrument.
