Brian J. Swann DDS, MPH
on behalf of Colgate Oral Health Network

Dr. Brian Swann has the unique opportunity of bringing 40 years of oral health experience, with a special interest in oral and systemic health.  He received a dental degree from the University of California San Francisco and a Masters in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH). His experience in clinical dentistry in both the public and private sectors, with a focus on serving underserved and vulnerable communities, proves to be an asset. The exposure to diverse communities has further developed his expertise to be cognizant of oral health care needs and to be culturally sensitive.  As a result of these efforts, he was the recipient of the Albert Schweitzer Award from HSPH. Dr. Swann’s position as Chief of Oral Health for the Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), one of the largest safety net organizations in Massachusetts, offers yet another perspective.  An Oral Physician Program has been developed within the General Practice Residency program at the CHA, a concept that expands primary care into the scope of oral health. At the Harvard Medical School, he is working to integrate the curriculum of medical and dental students. The Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM), where he is an Instructor, has instituted a global curriculum where he has played an integral part of that development. Dr. Swann is involved with outreach projects in Boston (homeless health care), Jamaica, Haiti and Rwanda. He is also directing a pipeline project for the Wampanoag Tribe on Martha’s Vineyard Island.
