Description

This course will provide a proactive approach and insight into the prevention of the increasing problem of prescription drug abuse and misuse. It will review the pharmacy tragedies taking place on Long Island and the prescription drug abuse in the U.S.A. The Nassau County Executive-s Task Force on the Prevention of Drug Abuse and Misuse will be discussed, including the possible recommendations from the Task Force, which include aspects that will affect Dentistry. The course will review controlled substances as well as proper prescribing methodologies. The most common methods of prescription drug diversion will be analyzed such as doctor shopping, drug seeking behavior, prescription pad security, and proper prescription protocol.

Dr. Peter Blauzvern

Dr. Peter BlauzvernDr. Peter Blauzvern is a dentist in private practice in Jericho, N.Y. He is a Clinical Instructor and teaches and lectures at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Medical Center in the Dental Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Blauzvern received his dental degree from New York University College of Dentistry in 1983. Dr. Blauzvern has been an active member of the American Dental Association elected as a National Delegate; he was elected as a Governor for the New York State Dental Association and presently serves as a State Delegate. As well, he served as President for the Nassau County Dental Society. In 2011, Dr. Blauzvern was re-elected New York State Dental Association Chairman of the Council on Dental Practice, which is responsible to research and evaluate all aspects of dental practice and the laws and regulations that govern Dentistry. In 2012, he was appointed to Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano-s Task Force on the Prevention of Abuse and Misuse of Prescription Drugs.
