Description

Explanation of major hardening processes for alloys (solid solution hardening, work hardening, disorder-order hardening, and precipitation hardening).

Objectives

Objectives
On a written examination, a student should be able to:Contrast the processes of solid solution hardening, work hardening, disorder-order hardening, and precipitation (age) hardening.Explain the relationship of non-equilibrium phase diagrams (TTT curves) to equilibrium phase diagrams.Use a TTT curve to determine which phases and how much of each phase will form during a particular cooling regimen.Identify all mechanisms of hardening for metal alloys with equilibrium or non- equilibrium structures.
