Sarah Cottingham is owner of BCS Leadership, LLC a leading practice management and consulting firm. Sarah began in dentistry as a dental hygiene assistant for an Expanded Functions Hygienist before attending Northern Arizona University. Now in the 20th year of practicing dental hygiene, she has practiced with many of the true visionaries in the field of dentistry. This clinical experience has given Sarah the ability to have a first hand knowledge of the inner workings of a dental practice and hygiene departments. Thus, allowing her the ability to enroll entire dental teams on how to successfully impact taking a practice to the next level. Sarah chooses to still clinically practice, although only a couple days per month, she finds that the relationships she has with her clients and keeping her skills fresh is vitally important to keep a fresh view on the current state of dentistry and real time challenges that teams are experiencing.Very early is her career, Sarah had the opportunity to manage a million dollar dental practice (while still clinically practicing part time), at a time when the million dollar dental practice was unheard of, and a hygiene department that could show profitability was a something from a fictional novel. As well as managing the practice she was instrumental in the successful transition of several dental practices that had been purchased in a state of disarray, reorganized and then sold for a handsome profit. With this type of experience and exposure to some of the best training during this time in her career, Sarah found her way to owning BCS Leadership and finds it extremely rewarding to assist dental teams in finding what they are passionate about and helping them achieve it. Practicing in several types of settings over her 20+ year career (conventional dental hygiene, assisted dental hygiene, within a periodontal practice, utilized technologies including the Perioscope, diode lasers, Velscope) has been the spring board to getting the real world experience that allows BCS Leadership to get results that are nothing less than amazing!Sarah has been a guest speaker to many study clubs, was featured in an expert panel for graduating class at Mesa Community College, featured on the cover of Hygiene town 3/08, featured her hygiene department in Hygiene Town in 8/08, interviewed for the January issue of Hygiene Town article on dental consultants, featured speaker at Townie Dental Meeting in Las Vegas in April 2008 and May of this year. Recently Sarah has been added to the newly established editorial advisory board of Hygiene Town and an East Valley Dental Hygiene Trustee.Sarah’s unique training in Neuro Linguistic Programming has allowed her a unique edge in the arena of getting related not only to her patients and practice management clients; it allows her the ability to connect to large groups with grace and ease. This skill has resulted in each and every speaking engagement to result in “Rave Reviews” and wanting attendees wanting more!In her spare time you will find her spending time with family (Jeff Cottingham, a chiropractor in Chandler, Arizona and two wonderfully energetic boys Keegan and Kelton) and friends enjoying the great days that we have in Arizona (not the ones over 115 degrees!)
