Description

One in four women will experience some level of domestic violence in their lifetime. Studies show that 94% of domestic violence victims have head and neck injuries. This means dentists (and their staff) are in a unique position identify victims of domestic violence and elder/child abuse during the course of the patient’s dental visit. This course will help you learn to recognize the signs of abuse and the risk factors associated with it. You will also learn when mandatory reporting is needed and how to develop an office protocol for documenting and reporting the cases.

Pam Wood is a Professor of Dental Health at the Community College of Rhode Island. She received her B.S. in Dental Hygiene from the University of Vermont and her M.Ed. from Rhode Island College. In addition to teaching, Pam is a private practice dental hygienist in a periodontal practice.
