Description

The cephalometric x-ray (lateral head film) is an essential part of orthodontic records to help diagnose the orthodontic problem. Is the malocclusion Class I, Class II or Class III and does the patient have a vertical or horizontal growth pattern? Are the upper and lower incisors normal, lingually displaced or flared?

This unit is the fourth in the series and should be followed by Anterior Open Bite, Bruxism and Instruments.

Objectives

On completion of this unit the clinician will understand:
General dentists should concentrate on treating children with crooked teeth and malocclusions in the mixed dentition. General dentists should also treat the straightforward simple orthodontic cases and refer the difficult cases to the orthodontic specialists. Cephalometrics is extremely helpful in determining how simple or difficult the orthodontic case. Is the malocclusion Class I, Class II or Class III. Is the malocclusion minor or severe.
