Description

Dr. Tom Nelson, veterinarian at Animal Medical Center in Alabama, discusses why we are often taught to "test" for heartworm more than we are taught to "prevent" heartworm disease. Veterinarians and veterinary technicians have to be better at reminding pet owners to prevent this potentially life-threatening infectious disease that is completely preventable!
Dr. John McCall, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Infectious Diseases at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, discusses how repellency and insecticidal efficacy can help prevent heartworm transmission in dogs and cats. Veterinarians and veterinary technicians must be aware of the best ways to help minimize the risks of heartworm to their patients.
