Description

This presentation describes how Whirlpool applies function analysis and value management principles with a Lean development process using various methodologies in each of the phases where projects are planned and defined. The consistent application of function analysis based on customer requirements drives product specifications with the correct architecture to meet the target cost resulting in a customer-driven design verification process based on achieving the functional requirements. Cost targets are reviewed based on function cost and achieved with DFV workshops.

Stefan Wohnhas, CVS, PVM
on behalf of SAVE International

Stefan Wohnhas is currently the Europe, Middle Eastern, and African (EMEA) Regional Design for Value Manager (DFV) responsible for facilitating Design for Assembly (DFA) and value engineering (VE) workshops for Whirlpool Corporation across all appliance categories. He is also involved in the redefinition of the product creation processes and integration of VE principles in the Lean product development initiative. Wohnhas has more than 23 years of industrial experience in the areas of product design, industrial engineering and technical information systems at Whirlpool. Previous to his current assignment, he held several positions as project leader, technical leader, and quality leader. He has conducted DFA training classes for Whirlpool employees in Europe and other regions. He holds a master's degree (Dipl.-Ing.) in mechanical engineering from the University of Stuttgart in Germany and is certified by SAVE as a Certified Value Specialist and the EGB as a Professional in Value Management. Wohnhas is a member of the Value Analysis/Value Management Advisory Board of Verine Deutscher Ingenieure in Germany and of the SAVE Certification Board.
