Description

This course will present a review of amblyopia diagnosis and treatment. Attendees will become familiar with the different types of amblyopia. Participants will become comfortable in performing an examination on a child with reduced vision, and will learn what examination techniques are helpful in arriving at a diagnosis of amblyopia. Current treatment options, including occlusion, pharmacological penalization and vision therapy will be discussed. A review of the Amblyopia Treatment Studies (ATS) and other research will be included.

• To learn about the different types of amblyopia
• To review the exam techniques useful in examining pediatric patients with decreased visual acuity
• To be able to diagnose amblyopia more comfortably
• To be able to recognize amblyopia from other causes of decreased visual acuity
• To be aware of current and future treatment options for amblyopia

Marie I. Bodack, O.D., FAAO, FCOVD, Dipl BVPPO

Dr. Marie I. Bodack earned her B.S. Degree in Psychology in 1994 from Fairfield University. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from The State University of New York State College of Optometry in 1998. She completed a residency in Pediatrics and Binocular Vision at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.

She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) and a Diplomate in its Binocular Vision, Perception and Pediatric Optometry Section. She is also a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) and currently serves on its Board of Directors.

Dr. Bodack has held faculty appointments at SUNY Optometry and later at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She currently serves as Chief of Pediatric Primary Care at Southern College of Optometry.
