Description

Factors Affecting Contact Lens Wear This presentation is an in-depth look at the various systemic, environmental and physiological factors that can affect successful contact lens wearing. We will review the impact of these diseases on the ocular system and will be able to determine the best contact lens options for patients who present with these systemic disorders. The proper steps to fitting a contact lens, when appropriate, in those pathologic situations, will also be discussed. Finally, environmental factors and the effects of medications that can negatively impact successful contact lens wear will be presented.

Objectives
Upon completion of the course the participant should be able to: describe the systemic diseases that affect successful contact lens wear; describe, define and identify pathology of the lids and cornea that affect the fitting of contact lens; list environmental factors that are important to successful contact lens wear; distinguish and describe numerous pathologies that may occur in part because of contact lens wear; understand the impact of medications that may influence contact lens wear; describe the effects of these medications and the methods to determine their impact.
