Description

This is the third course in the series. The pattern of distortion that occurs with each type of projection (Transverse Mercator and Lambert Conformal) is covered. Then the discussion moves on to the mapping angle, central meridian and what typical SPCS constants are for selected zones from each type of projection. The course concludes with a presentation on the computational process for calculating geodetic distances, grid distances and mapping angles.

Objectives

Objectives
1. How distortions occur with each of the projection types is covered.
2. The concept of scale less than true and scale greater than true is reinforced.
3. The concept of the mapping angle for each system is presented, as well as the process of calculating it.
4. The computational process for computing geodetic distances from the ground distances, and then applying the scale factor to develop grid distances is then discussed.
