Description

There is nothing particularly glamorous about the vitreous. It’s a blob of gel that has no blood supply, no nerves and can’t (itself) become infected or inflamed. Like a zero in maths, it has no value besides being a placeholder. But then, just like a zero, we certainly would notice if it were missing, wouldn’t we? Let’s look at how we rely on the vitreous and review some of the conditions that may affect it. ‘Vitreous’ means glass-like, so before we get to the vitreous of the eye, we’ll also review materials that have largely replaced glass in spectacle lenses. Happy reading!
