Description

Nutrition Short Course will focus on providing Missouri veterinarians answers to common nutrition questions posed by beef producers. Veterinarians are the professional animal scientist beef producers interact with most often, and producers pose them a wide-range of production questions. The presentation will focus on forage management, winter feeding, choosing supplements, and designing diets for various classes of beef cattle. Topics chosen are based on questions received frequently by Dr. Eric Bailey, Extension Beef Nutritionist at Mizzou. The goal of this short course is to inform Missouri veterinarians of MU Extension resources in beef cattle nutrition that can address current issues and provide producers with cutting-edge information to use in their beef cattle operations.

on behalf of Missouri Veterinary Medical Association

Dr. Bailey is the State Extension Beef Nutrition Specialist at the University of Missouri. He joined the University of Missouri in June 2017 after a stint as the Endowed Chair of Cow Calf Nutrition and Management at West Texas A&M University. He was born and raised on a commercial cow-calf and stocker operation outside of Santa Rosa, Mexico. He has degrees from West Texas A&M University and Kansas State University.
Research interests include ranch-of-origin preconditioning programs and nutrient supplementation for cattle grazing low-quality forages. Extension programming interests include strategies to reduce reliance on purchased and raised feedstuffs, as feed costs often are the largest component of an annual operating budget for cow-calf production.
