Description

This course provides a practical overview of the Missouri DOT Real Time Network (RTN). It is designed to help the practitioner understand what the network is all about. It also provides all the practical details on accessing the system through MO DOT, effectively preparing to use this valuable service, and best practices. In the latter area, the course covers how to make and optimize RTN observations, and explores ways to improve confidence in RTN measurements. The course includes an accelerated look at field observation procedures as well.

Tom Bryant, PLS

Tom Bryant is a professional land surveyor with more than 30 years of experience working in surveying. He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1978 with a Bachelor of General Studies degree. Tom studied at the University of Missouri-Rolla under Dr. Richard Elgin and then studied under Dr. David Knowles at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville where he graduated with an Associate’s degree in Surveying in 1984. Tom worked for several surveying and engineering companies in the St. Louis area implementing field to finish techniques with robotics and GPS into daily usage. In 2005 he was employed by Seiler Instrument Company, also in St. Louis, to head their Technical Support and Training activities. In April of 2008, Seiler Instrument Company was awarded the contract to build and implement a state wide real time VRS network for the Missouri Department of Transportation and Tom was assigned the position of Project Manager tasked with getting the Missouri Real Time Network operational. This was completed on February 1, 2010. Tom is a past President and newsletter editor for the St. Louis chapter of MSPS and has been a presenter at several MSPS, MoDOT and IPLSA workshops. Tom is an adjunct instructor for surveying classes at Washington University and St. Louis University. From October of 2010 until May of 2014, Tom served as Technical Support and Training Manager for Seiler Instrument Company’s Survey Division. In May of 2014 he moved into Geospatial Sales for Seiler.
