Description

Blockade of the inferior alveolar nerve is the most commonly desired goal of mandibular anesthesia. It is also one of the most difficult blocks to achieve. Mandibular anesthesia depends on successfully blocking branches of the trigeminal nerve, especially the inferior alveolar nerve which supplies the mandibular teeth and surrounding soft tissue. This course will discuss 3 mandibular nerve block injection techniques – the Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block, the Gow-Gates mandibular nerve block and the Akinosi technique.

Objectives

Objectives
Learn the anatomical landmarks associated with local anesthesia Learn the structures innervated by the branches of the trigeminal nerve Review the injections techniques for the Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block, the Gow-Gates mandibular nerve block and the Akinosi technique.
