Description

This course will cover the introduction of bacteria into the oral cavity and how these bacterial form a dynamic biofilm and how the bacteria communicate with each other to decide to attach to the tooth and root surfaces. It will include information about ways to control the biofilm through chemical, mechanical and new innovative approaches. Also covered is the Two-Hit Model explaining how the bacteria in the biofilm trigger an infection in the periodontal tissues and the body’s immune response. The course will cover the histology of bleeding upon probing and what the bleeding means to both the clinician and the patient.
