This course has been made available through a partnership between the New York University College of Dentistry and the New York State Dental Foundation.Course description:DETECTING & MANAGING ORAL PRECANCER AND CANCER.Since all oral cancers start out as oral precancer or dysplasia, the dental health professional can improve patient outcome by appropriately managing oral dysplasia in their practice. Early diagnosis of oral cancer significantly impacts on both treatment and survival. This course covers the current epidemiology of oral cancer (including information related to HPV+ oropharyngeal cancers), the clinical features that are suggestive of oral cancer and potentially malignant oral lesions, the indications for emerging adjunctive diagnostic techniques (imaging, tissue autofluorescence, toluidine blue staining, cytopathologic techniques, and HPV testing), and provide the participants with an update on the management of patients diagnosed with epithelial dysplasia and oral cancer.
