Description

This course is the first of a two-part series on the role of the dental professional in discovering and diagnosing oral cancer through proper oral screenings. This portion provides an overview of the importance of dental professionals providing annual oral cancer screening for patients, a patient's perspective of what to expect in an oral cancer screening, and the responsibilities of medical and dental professionals regarding oral cancer awareness, discovery, diagnosis, and referral.

Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to do the following:Understand the oral cancer screening process from the patient's perspective.Educate patients on basic risk factors for oral cancer.Explain the oral cancer screening process in simple terms.Teach patients the importance of annual screening for oral cancer.Explain regular self-examinations of the head, neck, and mouth to patients.
