Description

This presentation is suitable for the general public and other professionals to help educate everyone interested in the important subject of snoring and sleep apnea. The two main signs of sleep apnea are snoring and excessive daytime sleepiness. A discussion about oral appliances, CPAP, home sleep studies and hospital sleep studies. Several cases treated successfully with oral appliances will be shown. This presentation would also be helpful to show staff as well as patients.

Objectives

On completion of this unit the clinician will understand:
The main objective is to help educate the public regarding the difference between snoring and sleep apnea as well as to discuss how sleep apnea is diagnosed. Two main signs that a patient may have sleep apnea are snoring and excessive daytime sleepiness. The diagnosis can only be done with a hospital sleep lab or a home sleep study which must be interpreted by a sleep specialist. Sleep apnea is treated by oral appliance, CPAP or surgery.
