Description

this course is designed to provide the learner a background about pregnancy and the changes that occur in the woman’s body. These changes require modification of the methods of providing oral health care. In addition to the changes that occur organs that changes in the pregnant woman’s body and the learner learns the necessary steps to modify his or her way of treatment to comfort the mother and protect the fetus. General considerations as well as the indications for an obstetrical consultation are provided. Moreover the learner is to learn the timing and sequence of providing oral care as well as precautions in handling routine dental care, oral infections and orofacial pain. Categories of medications and their safety use for pregnant women in dentistry are listed.

REDA A. ABDEL-FATTAH, BDS, MS, MPS, is a practicing dentist in Boca Raton, FL. He emphasizes evaluation and management of orofacial pain and TMJ disorders. In addition to his dental education, Dr. AbdelFattah completed two master’s degrees. The first is in materials science and engineering with emphasis on biomaterials; the second is in professional studies with a concentration in biomechanical trauma. Named as an expert by plaintiffs and defendants in numerous TMJ injury cases, Dr. Abdel-Fattah is a sought-after lecturer and the author of many articles and books. A member of the Academy since 1987, he is a Fellow ofthe AACP and a Diplomate of the American Board of Craniofacial Pain.
