Description

Review of local anesthetic techniques for effective anesthesia and updates on reversal, gate control and buffering agents. Practical recommendations for successful management of surgical emergencies during routine dental extractions, including effective achievement of local anesthetic, bleeding and infection control will be discussed. Types of block anesthesia, choices of injectable anesthetics, choices of instrumentations and their indications will be discussed. We will address prevention and management of postoperative bleeding with review of most commonly used anticoagulant as well as local measurements to manage bleeding. We explore local and systemic complications during and after a surgical procedure. We will review the correlation of complications as it relates to patients, doctors, surgical techniques and the choice of instrumentations.

Mansoor Madani, DMD is the chairman of the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Capital Health System in New Jersey. He is also an associate professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Temple University Hospital and the director of Bala Institute of Oral Surgery. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.
