Description

This self-paced, interactive two-module online course is designed specifically for childbirth educators looking for the freedom and autonomy of owning their own business. The first module focuses on developing a solid business plan with realistic goals and expectations. The second module provides guided support for crafting a marketing plan and communication strategies, as well as information about networking with partners in your community, developing a basic website content plan, and leveraging your Lamaze connection. The tools you will gain will allow you to make a successful business out of your experience and passion for childbirth education.

Objectives

Module 1: Business Planning: By the end of this module, participants will be able to:
● Identify one or two potentially appropriate business structures for your company;
● Understand where and how to pursue local resources, and the next steps for moving forward with starting your business;
● Understand the components of a business plan, including a company description, services offered and scope of practice;
● Describe three options for keeping and maintaining business records;
● Discuss business liability issues;
● Understand your tax liability as a business owner;
● Outline services and fees in a written document;
● Discuss fees and services with a client/student in a clear and professional manner with all policies outlined;
● Understand the value of written policies with students;
● Understand how to be assertive, professional and credible while promoting yourself and your business;
● Describe specific ways to build relationships and maintain strategic partnerships;
● Develop a script to address conflict resolution, and identify best practices for dealing with potential conflict and learn how to walk away.


Module 2: Marketing Your Business: By the end of this module, participants will be able to:
● Identify and describe your ideal client;
● Identify the elements of a marketing plan, and begin creating a draft plan;
● Identify strategies to communicate with and market to your ideal client;
● Create a draft elevator pitch to describe your business’ purpose, services and your skills;
● Identify the networking partners in your community and understand how to approach and interact with them;
● Understand how to expand your networking group to include partners who can extend the reach of your business;
● Develop an outline for a basic, high quality educator website;
● Understand how to leverage Lamaze in your work. "

Deena Blumenfeld ERYT, RPYT, LCCE guides women and their partners from fertility, through pregnancy and childbirth and into early parenthood with grace and confidence. She is a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator and a Lamaze Program Director as well as a Prenatal Yoga Instructor. Deena is the owner and principal educator at Shining Light Prenatal Education and Shining Light Doulas in Pittsburgh, Pa. Jessica English, LCCE, FACCE, CD/BDT(DONA), is the founder of Heart | Soul | Business. A former marketing and PR executive, she owns Birth Kalamazoo, a thriving doula and childbirth education agency in Southwest Michigan. Jessica trains birth doulas and Lamaze childbirth educators, as well as offering heart-centered business-building workshops for all birth professionals.
