Description

This session is designed for childbirth educators, nurses, breastfeeding professionals and others providing prenatal breastfeeding guidance to the mothers planning on returning to work or school postpartum. Many women state going back to work as a barrier to breastfeeding initiation and continuation. With prenatal education, anticipatory guidance and support, these barriers may be overcome. By the end of the webinar, participants will recognize prenatal guidance and support for breastfeeding mothers returning to work or school.

Participants can earn 1.0 Lamaze Contact Hours, 1.0 contact hours of CNE, and 1.0 L-CERPs credit upon successful completion.

Objectives

The learner will understand following:
Describe maternal prenatal concerns regarding breastfeeding and return to work or school.
Describe anticipatory guidance for mothers and families in childbirth classes planning on breastfeeding and return to work or school.
Describe strategies to promote breastfeeding for mothers returning to work or school."

Patricia Nielsen is an Outpatient Lactation Consultant for Mount Carmel East, West & St. Ann's Hospitals in Columbus, Ohio, where she daily provides private outpatient lactation consultation for women experiencing challenges and in need of encouragement with breastfeeding, leads weekly breastfeeding support groups, and answers over 300 breastfeeding helpline calls per month. Patty was passionate and inspiring Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator for almost 20 years, and gleaned much experience and differing perspectives from her years as a home visiting RN for new postpartum mom's and babies. Delighted daily by her four children, a lover of mountains, music and great conversations, she has learned many innovative tips for returning to work and breastfeeding from the thousands of mothers she has worked with over the years.
