Description

This recorded webinar is designed for childbirth educators, nurses and others who support or educate expectant families. The goal of the session is to change practice by providing nurses and other care providers with the knowledge and skills to utilize an effective assessment tool to measure pain and coping during labor and birth. Participants will learn to identify behavioral clues associated with maternal coping. Participants will discuss physiological, physical and emotional support methods to enhance coping in all birth settings. This information can be used to educate parents, support labor and birth practice and advocate for change among birth professionals.

Participants can earn 1.0 Lamaze Contact Hours credit upon successful completion.

Objectives

Kathryn Konrad, MS, RNC-OB, LCCE, FACCE and C. Denise Hancock, MS, RN, LCCE

Kathryn Konrad has educational experience overseeing the development and presentation of childbirth, breastfeeding and parenting classes in both hospital and community settings. Currently she is an instructor at The University of Oklahoma College of Nursing. She received a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2000 and a Masters of Science degree with an emphasis in Nursing Education from The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 2008. She has been Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator since 2006, an RNC-OB since 2005 and a labor and birth nurse since 2000. She was inducted as a Fellow in the Academy of Certified Childbirth Educators in 2011. She offers workshops on evidence-based labor support for nurses and nursing students.
Dr. Hancock has worked as a nurse educator for 8 years. She is currently employed full-time with William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She teaches research methods and evidence-based practice in undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. Dr. Hancock has been a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator since 2007. She currently serves Lamaze International as a volunteer nurse planner on the Accredited Provider Unit committee.
