Description

Using the SOAP format and cases that come directly from our offices, this course explains the most common conditions that present to the optometrist that are best treated with oral medications. Specific instructions are given as to the dosage and administration of the medications. Contraindications, side effects, alternative medications and expected outcomes are discussed at length. This is a nuts and bolts oral medication course. When and what medications to use for a given condition are explained. Participants will leave this course with a clear understanding of the conditions that are best treated with oral medications, as well as proper dosing and administration.
*This course has an accompanying exam to verify completion; it cannot be counted as CEE or "TQ".

Objectives

Participants will be able to:
-become familiar with the oral medications commonly used in primary eye care
Participants will be able to:
be able to diagnose and treat a variety of anterior and posterior segment problems that require the use of oral pharmaceutical agents
Participants will:
-be able to properly dose the appropriate oral medications
Participants will:
be able to evaluate the patient for possible contraindications for oral medication usage
Participants will:
be aware of alternative therapies that can be used in lieu of or in addition to the oral medications
Participants will:
be familiar with the expected outcomes over a certain time period.
