Description

This course provides a basic practical guide to the field of low vision. It gives an overview of optics, refraction, measuring visual acuity for patients with visual impairment and low vision, and guides the practitioner in how to best help these patients meet their individual goals.

Objectives

Develop an understanding of optics involved in refraction, optical devices and interfacing with assistive technology

Understand the interaction between spectacles and optical magnification devices

Demonstrate the ability to use multiple types of magnification together.

Dr Tracy Matchinski OD
on behalf of Illinois College of Optometry

Dr. Matchinski graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1995 and completed her residency at the William Feinbloom Low Vision Rehabilitation Center of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She splits her time between The Chicago Lighthouse and is on the faculty at the Illinois College of Optometry. She has a special interest in pediatric Low Vision Rehabilitation. Dr. Matchinski is a Low Vision Diplomate of the American Academy of Optometry and has published and lectured both nationally and internationally on Low Vision Rehabilitation. She is also active in community service, in particular VOSH, Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity. She is the vice president of VOSH International, president of VOSH- Illinois and active in the CURE Network.
