Description

We will review of clinical characteristics of exotropia including signs and symptoms, the clinical exam and the strabismus evaluation. Treatment options such as overminus, prism, occlusion, surgery, and vision therapy will be discussed. The different phases of vision therapy for intermittent exotropia including optimal optical correction, equalizing monocular skills, obtaining peripheral and central fusion, using binocular vision in free space and maintenance will be discussed.
Finally, three cases will help to review some of the treatment options.

Dr. To joined ICO as a full-time faculty member in 2011 with clinical and laboratory teaching responsibilities in the Pediatrics and Vision Therapy Department as well as didactic instruction in the Optometry sequence. She grew up in Canada and received her undergraduate degree in Natural Science with a concentration in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Calgary. She received her optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry and proceeded to complete her residency training in Pediatric Optometry and Vision Therapy at the Southern California College of Optometry. She has also taught two elective courses: Advanced Pediatrics and Spanish for the Optometrist.
