Description

This CEU course discusses staff training and education; patient care before administering vaccine and during vaccine administration; infection control; vaccine preparation; route and site; nonstandard administration; managing acute vaccine reactions; documentation; strategies to prevent administration error; and vaccine adverse event reporting system.

Objectives

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Enumerate the “Rights of Medication Administration,” which should be applied to each encounter when vaccines are administered.

2. Investigate, whenever solution and container permit, what the vaccine should be visually inspected for.

3. Identify the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis that will usually begin within minutes of vaccination.

4. Describe the proper procedure when vaccinating persons with bleeding disorders.
