Description

In this course review and compare research on the neurocardiology of the heart-brain' and its impact on the cranial brain. The impact of the heart's electro-chemical signals and electromagnitic fields (EKG) on brain and body is analyzed and compared to Eastern energy systems, including chakras, yogic pranic healing, energy work and breathing practices. Gain tools to evaluate and address developmental ‘wounded child’ crises, existential 'ego-death' dilemmas in adulthood, and spiritual crisis.

This counseling skills program is relevant to direct client care for clinical counselors, marriage and family therapy, educational psychology, clinical social work, body-oriented therapists, pastoral counselors and clergy, mindfulness educators, social-change enthusiasts and all those interested in helping themselves and others to extend healing during times of trauma, crisis and or accelerated change, as we transition into a global society.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
Objective 1:
Discuss neurocardiology and the cardiac plexus' heart-brain's capacity to learn, remember, and make functional decisions, plus influence our thoughts and feelings independent of the cranial brain
Objective 2:
List attributes associated with yogic sciences seven ‘chakra’ plexi subtle spiritual energy fields and discuss the impact of crisis on the flow of energy through seven chakra's neuroendocrinological plexi described in yoga
Objective 3:
Describe yogic pranic healing energy work and breathing practices to address developmental ‘wounded child’ crises, existential 'ego-death' dilemmas in adulthood, spiritual crisis and awakening

Beth Hedva, Ph.D., former faculty in the Department of Clinical Psychology, Antioch University, and Adjunct Research Faculty in Sofia University's Global Program, is currently the Director of Counseling and Training at the Canadian Institute for Transpersonal and Integrative Sciences (CITIS). Nominated for inclusion in the 1st edition of the Marquis Who’s Who in Medicine & Health Care, and past member of the Board of Directors of the International Council of Psychologists, Hedva's evidence based Spiritually Directed Therapy Protocol for Recovery from Trauma® brought her invitations to present her work at the United Nation, and you will find her in the American Biographic Institute’s 2009 Hall of Fame for “Humanitarian Contributions in Cross-Cultural Psychology”.
