Description

This course will provide an update on the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of Lupus with an emphasis on ocular complications. Lupus can affect every ocular structure, and eye involvement can be the initial presenting sign of this complex disease. Early detection and interdisciplinary collaboration are key to reducing vision loss and morbidity.

Objectives

On completion of this course the learner will be able to:
1) Understand the pathophysiology of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
2) Identify the ocular complications of Lupus
3) Be familiar with optimal management of ocular complications
4) Recognize potential ocular complications in the treatment of Lupus

Lisa M. Wahl, O.D., FAAO

Lisa Wahl, O.D. received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2013 from the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University. She completed her B.S. in Biology with a minor in English Literature at the University of California, Los Angeles. In 2014, she completed a residency in Ocular Disease at the Veterans Affairs Los Angeles Ambulatory Care Center. Dr. Wahl is also a fellow in the American Academy of Optometry.

At present, Dr. Wahl serves as adjunct faculty MBKU and is the coordinator of contact lens services at University Eye Center Los Angeles. She is also an associate at the Maloney Vision Institute, specializing comanagement of cataract and refractive surgery. She is a sub-investigator on several FDA studies in refractive technology.
