Description

Ischemic optic neuropathies are rare yet devastating ocular conditions as a result of underlying systemic conditions. This course will touch upon the systemic etiology of ischemic optic neuropathies. As the conditions share similarities, distinguishing factors will be introduced. Diagnosis, treatment, and management options will also be discussed.

Objectives

On completion of this course the learner will be able to:
1. Gain increased understanding of the definition, epidemiology, causes, and pathophysiology of ischemic optic neuropathies.
2. Understand, interpret, and distinguish the common signs and symptoms associated with each condition.
3. Learn how best to manage these conditions based on clinical examination findings and ancillary testing.

Raman Bhakhri, OD

Raman Bhakhri, O.D., earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Alberta. He then received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Following graduation, Dr. Bhakhri completed a residency in low vision and ocular disease at the Illinois College of Optometry and the Chicago Lighthouse. Currently, Dr. Bhakhri is an assistant professor in low vision and ocular disease at SCCO. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
