Description

Introduction: Most people don’t like conflict and will usually avoid it at all costs. But when dealing with the public chances are pretty good there are going to be conflicts. This course will explain techniques to avoid conflicts and explore ways to diffuse conflicts once they’ve occurred.

Upon completion of this course the participant should be able to: Implement procedures in the optical dispensary to avoid conflict; Identify solutions to a variety possible conflicts; Understand language to help diffuse conflict.

Joy Livingood Gibb is an American Board of Opticianry Certified Optician who began her optical career in 1986. She managed an independent retail opticianry in Bountiful, Utah for over ten years before opening her own business, Eyes of Joy Mobile Optical Service in 2008. Joy is well respected for her ability to fit children’s eyewear, difficult prescriptions, and is a progressive lens specialist. Having worn glasses since the age of six she understands firsthand the importance of seeing well and feeling great in glasses and relates well to every patient. On a national level, Joy presents courses at conferences and in educational setting around the country, as well as developing educational courses for other eye care professionals. She is a consultant for The Vision Council, is a contributor to Vision Care Product News, and has participated in the writing of several industry guides and publications. She currently serves as a member of the Better Vision Institute (BVI), which is a group of representatives from the fields of ophthalmology, optometry, and opticianry that serves as an advisory board for The Vision Council. The BVI provides input for programs and materials to ensure that the vision messages are accurate, raises awareness on various vision related issues, and offers suggestions for continuing education courses.
