Description

Introduction: With the vast array of frame materials available to optical dispensers, it can be difficult to stay on top of current trends. Technological advances are constantly giving rise to new materials and new methods to manufacture them. Each substance has its own unique characteristics, with certain advantages and disadvantages. It’s imperative to know each material’s unique attributes in order to present, recommend, and handle them properly. The following is an overview of what’s out there in plastic, metal, and other materials.

Jackie O'Keefe, ABOC is licensed in Virginia and has been practicing Opticianry since 1981. Jackie is Contributing Writer and Editor for Vision Care Product News and consults in the Virginia Beach, VA area. She has written, published and presented numerous courses and lectures on a variety of optical topics for state societies and most recently at EastWest Eye Conference, International Vision Expo and SECO International. She has been active in the International Association of Lions Clubs, a volunteer for Maine's Prevention of Blindness Programs, Inc. and is on the speakers' bureau for the Suicide Prevention Awareness & Resource Council. Jackie is President of the Opticians Association of Virginia and a founding member and Past President of the Opticians Association of Maine.
