Description

Introduction: According to the US Census, children comprise one quarter of our entire population and have consistently increased in eyewear usage every year since 1987. Children, 14 and younger, require different interaction skills and entirely different fitting and dispensing skills than our adult population. This article focuses on two areas of working with children. The first section deals with how we interact with children. The second section examines dispensing skills that are specific to children's eyewear.

Objectives

Objectives
Upon completion of this course the participant should be able to: choose lenses that will minimize the lens appearance of heavy corrections; understand which type of PD measuring technique to use when faced with a child; use pantoscopic and retroscopic tilt adjustments to compensate for unique features of a child’s face; address parental concerns effectively; adapt adult fitting techniques to the needs of a child; interact with younger consumers in a respectful and effective manner.
