Description

Introduction: Today polarization is used in many products including sunwear where it helps to provide the best possible vision on overcast days as well as in the sun and preserve ocular health by shielding the eyes from damaging rays. To get an idea of how polarization came about, we’ll start at the beginning.

Objectives
Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to: explain how light rays become polarized; outline the four types of glare; explain how a light ray travels; discuss how chemical composition affects the performance of a polarized filter; discuss how lens colors enhance activities; discuss recommending polarized lenses.

Dee Beins-Carew is licensed in Ohio and is ABO Advanced and Contact Lens Certified. She has been in the optical field for 27 years. She has a Masters in Liberal Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. She has written and published news and publicity articles and advertisements for opticians and optometrists, as well as local organizations and businesses. She works as an optician and finishing lab technician where she develops sales aids, patient education information and product information kits. She is a fellow of the NAO, and a member of the Opticians Association of Ohio and Opticians Association of America.
