Description

Introduction Refraction is defined as the act of determining the focal condition (emmetropia or various ametropias) of the eye and its corrections by optical devices, usually spectacles or contact lenses. Many opticians around the country have shown great interest in learning the procedures involved but have been unable to take a course on the subject. This article is designed to introduce the subject to those interested, and to provide some continuing education for others already involved in the process.

Objectives

Objectives
Upon completion of the course the participant should be able to: describe the components of a refraction; list equipment requirements; describe procedures involved in the process of refraction; define a role for Opticians and ancillary personnel in the clinical application of optical principles of the refraction; recognize the need for additional education and training in refraction for Opticians.
