Description

The course covers the techniques of placing and removing hydrogel and rigid contact lenses on patients by a practitioner or optometric assistant. Recentering of rigid lenses from the cul-de-sac is illustrated and described. Methods of teaching patients the procedures to place and remove their lenses is also illustrated and described.

Objectives

Objectives
The objective of the course is to teach the various methods of placing and removing (and recentering) contact lenses on patients by a practitioner or optometric assistant with the greatest efficiency and patient comfort. In addition, show the optometric assistant different methods of teaching patients to place lenses on their eyes and removing them depending on the individual patient’s anatomy and needs.

Dr Gerald Lowther O.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Lowther has spent his career providing patient care in the area of contact lenses, teaching contact lens courses in university settings, doing clinical research and lecturing internationally. He is past president of the American Academy of Optometry, National Board of Examiners in Optometry and the International Society for Contact Lens Research. He has published over 100 research papers and authored three books and numerous chapters in other books. He has received numerous awards. He retired from the School of Optometry at Indiana University as dean.
