An interactive presentation looking at Equine back pain.

Objectives

At the end of this lecture you will be able to-
• Explain how to recognise back pain
• Define the categories of back pain
• Explain the role of hind limb lameness in back pain
• Compare and summarize the available diagnostics in evaluating back pain
• Summarise the most common primary diseases of the back
• Identify and formulate treatments (including ancillary treatments)

Evita graduated from Utrecht University (Netherlands) in 2002, after which she completed an internship in a private referral hospital.

She moved to the United States, where she completed an equine surgical internship, residency program and a one year lectureship at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center. She became a Diplomate of the ACVS in 2009.

Evita returned to Europe, worked as an equine surgeon in a private referral hospital and became a member of the Langford Team in the beginning of 2011.

Clinical interests are in all aspects of equine surgery, but her main interest is in equine orthopaedics. Her research focus is pathogenesis and treatment of osteoarthritis and fracture repair.

In 2014, Evita was awarded the Diploma of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (ACVSMR).

She owns a very active and happy Flatcoated Retriever named Daico and a cat named Kermit. Daico loves climbing on top of things (tables, chairs), whereas Kermit mostly sleeps.
