Description

Preventive medicine is a vital, but often under served, component of quality veterinary care. The prevention of adverse conditions and disease can aid pets in living a longer and healthier life. This includes helping pets enjoy active and happy senior years. All teams have experience with the patient who, if only brought in earlier or on a more regular basis, would have a better prognosis.
The practice needs to become the #1 educational resource for clients. Pet owners will seek out information and guidance. Is that info and direction better to come from your team or from websites of unknown quality? In addition, there are liability considerations when failing to make preventive recommendations.
Part of educating clients in terms of preventive medicine is the discussion of costs. As uncomfortable as the topic is for most practices, protocols need to include providing pet owners with financial options as well.
Practices need to set in place effective protocols to ensure that all team members support and communicate the value of preventive medicine. Effective protocols begin with team education. Keeping the Family/Pet Bond Strong Through the Senior Years will provide an overview of the importance of preventive care for dogs and cats and team member responsibilities along with sharing resources to use to build strong preventive medicine protocols.

Please note: This course is based on a webinar presented December 4, 2014.
