Description

A presentation with additional course notes looking at the use of fluid therapy in small animal and the particular requirements for feline fluid therapy. Please be aware there is no audio to accompany this presentation.

Objectives

Understanding Fluid Therapy
Understand the distribution of body water and different compartments
Be aware of the different types of fluid available and when it is appropriate to choose them
Be able to describe management of hypovolaemic shock and fluid resuscitation
Be able to calculate the fluid deficit in a dehydrated patient
Describe species difference in considering feline fluid therapy

Christina Maunder BVM&S CertSAM DipECVIM-CA MRCVS

Christina graduated from the Royal (Dick) Veterinary College, University of Edinburgh in 1995. After graduation she spent the first five years in mixed practice before a six month break travelling around the world and supporting the British Lions rugby tour in Australia in 2001.

She returned to small animal practice in Bristol for two years and also worked as a locum in the Bristol area for four years.

Christina obtained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Medicine in 2007. She undertook a three year residency in small animal medicine and intensive care at the University of Bristol in 2009 and obtained the European Diploma in Small Animal Medicine in 2012.

Christina enjoys all aspects of internal medicine; however her main clinical interests lie in gastroenterology, hepatology, medical oncology, haematological and immune-mediated disorders.

Outside of work, Christina has an OAP cat enjoying retirement that runs the house.
